Siphiwo Ntshebe, South African opera singer, chosen to perform at the opening ceremony of the World Cup on June 11 in Johannesburg, died of meningitis. The tenor, 34, was admitted to a hospital in Port Elizabeth last week and died yesterday. Said on his record label, Epic Records. The singer would sing a song specially written for the occasion entitled 'Hope', which also contains a message written and recorded by Mandela himself. Epic boss Nick Raphael, reported the BBC website, said the death of Ntshebe "is a tragedy for all who believe in the power of music." "His voice was truly amazing and his music was unique melodies and messages of hope and compassion of which was a carrier," said Raphael. Epic said that 'Hope' is "a sublime song."
