Secondo alcuni esperti francesi le vuvuzelas, le tipiche trombe colorate dei tifosi sudafricani, vere star di questo Mondiale, sono «pericolose» per l'udito e possono avere effetti «catastrofici».Secondo la foniatra Mireille Tardy, sentita dalla France Presse, un rumore di 126 decibel «è pari a quello che fa un gruppo di tifosi che urlano di gioia. Per l'orecchio è una catastrofe. Essere esposti a questo tipo di potenza acustica fa rischiare un trauma sonoro acuto istantaneo». La conseguenza è la «distruzione» di una parte delle cellule sensoriali, e l'orecchio interno ne possiede «solo 15.000, che non si rinnovano». L'esperta ricorda che l'intensità massima sopportata dall'orecchio in una discoteca è di 125 decibel, mentre 130 decibel corrispondono alla soglia del dolore. L'intensità delle vuvuzelas è stimata intorno ai 126-127 decibel, anche 130.
«Se una vuvuzela a due metri produce126 decibel - spiega il professor Christian Gelis, biofisico - 10 vuvuzelas produrranno un rumore di 10 decibel più forte, 100 vuvuzelas un rumore di 20 decibel più forte e così via».
In Francia lo strumento sudafricano ha scatenato persino le reazioni di numerosi telespettatori di TF1, la rete privata che trasmette le partite. Centinaia di mail di proteste anti-vuvuzela sono arrivati alla redazione. Molti i commenti negativi pervenuti anche sulle reti del servizio pubblico ed in particolare alla tramissione Stade 2 di commento ai Mondiali. Ieri, sulle 4.000 telefonate arrivate in studio, il 90% era per lamentare il boato di fondo provocato dalle vuvuzelas.
