FRANCIA, CANNES: CALCIO E COCA, FILM SULLA LEGGENDA DEI DUE ESCOBAR - FRANCE, CANNES: FOOTBALL AND COCA, MOVIE ON TWO ESCOBAR LEGEND

Viene dall'America (era al Festival newyorchese Tribeca di Bob De Niro) il film-documento «The Two Escobars», scritto e diretto da Jeff e Michael Zimbalist che ha suscitato la curiosità di molti sulla Croisette. Il film si vede sull'ondeggiante (perchè agitato dal vento) schermo all'aperto della sezione «Cinema de la Plage», fino a ieri riservato a vecchi capolavori da cineteca. Il film di oggi racconta la parallela ascesa e caduta di due fratelli, Andres e Pablo. Era il giugno 1994 e la nazionale della Colombia, dopo decenni di anonimato, giocava per il turno successivo della Coppa del Mondo. In quel fatale pomeriggio però il calciatore che della squadra era il carismatico capitano, Andres Escobar, buttò il pallone nella porta sbagliata e il suo autogol spianò la strada alla nazionale degli Stati Uniti. Per un paese come la Colombia che aveva affidato al calcio il suo riscatto sociale e una rinnovata immagine, quella sconfitta sembrò un segno avverso del destino. Ma scommettitori clandestini e boss della droga interpretarono diversamente il gesto di Escobar e poche settimane dopo, il 2 luglio, anonimi sicari lo freddarono. Quel delitto non poteva essere confinato nel recinto della follia calcistica anche per la «pesante» parentela di Andres con Pablo, signore incontrastato del Cartello di Medellin, ras della droga. Anche per l'altro Escobar la sorte è stata inclemente: il 2 dicembre del 1993 una squadra antidroga affiancata da agenti speciali della Delta Force americana lo braccò nella sua città natale, Medellin, è il boss venne fatto a pezzi dalle pallottole. «Storie come queste - dicono i fratelli Zimbalist - storie in cui ritroviamo la suggestione dello sport ma anche il suo stretto intreccio con l'evolversi della società e le sue pagine meno nobili, ci devono far riflettere su quale alibi possa diventare la nostra più grande passione per occultare vite e leggende in negativo».

The movie is watched on waving(because agitated by the wind) screen outdoor section 'Cinema de la Plage, until recently reserved for old masterpieces library movies. The movie is about parallel rise and fall of two brothers, Andres and Pablo. It was June 1994 and the national of Colombia, after decades of anonymity, played for the next round of World Cup. On that fateful afternoon, however the player that was charismatic captain of his team, Andres Escobar, threw the ball in the wrong side and his own goal paved the way for the U.S. national. For a country like Colombia that gave the football his social redemption and a renewed image, seemed a sign that defeat against destiny. But gamblers and illegal drug boss differently interpreted Escobar's gesture and a few weeks later, on July 2, anonymous assassins killed him. That crime couldn't be contained in the enclosure of football madness for the 'heavy' relationship with Pablo, the undisputed lord of the Medellin Cartel, drug ras. Even for the other Escobar fate was harsh: 2 December 1993 a drug squad flanked by special american agents of Delta Force stopped him in his hometown, Medellin, and the boss was torn apart by bullets. "Stories like these - tell brothers Zimbalist - stories where we find the suggestion of his sport but also intertwined with the evolution of society and its pages less noble, must make us reflect on what excuse can become our greatest passion for obscure lives and negative legends".
