Alla luce dei deludenti risultati del Torneo Apertura 2011, Aguilas de America, uno dei club più popolari del Messico, via web, ha messo all'asta tutti i suoi giocatori.
La goccia che ha fatto traboccare il vaso, è stata la sconfitta per 3 a 1 contro i rivali del Cruz Azul, per cui ha concluso il campionato al penultimo posto (in 17 partite, tre vittorie, sei pareggi e otto sconfitte), e non si è nemmeno classificato per la 'Liguilla', che disputano otto squadre.
L'America che, tra l'altro, vanta 14 campionati ed è proprietà del canale tv Televisa, proprietario anche dello stadio Atzeca, ha diramato un comunicato in cui afferma di «condividere la rabbia e la frustrazione» dei tifosi.
