Diego Armando Maradona ha messo una bandiera argentina a mezz'asta nella casa dove si è rifugiato, dopo la batosta subita dalla sua Seleccion in Sudafrica ad opera della Germania.
Si riposa, incontra solo alcuni parenti ed amici più stretti e gioca qualche partitella con i familiari della fidanzata Veronica.
È stato il quotidiano Perfil ad avere accesso alla casa che occupa nel quartiere El Trebol, il trifoglio, nella zona dell'aeroporto di Ezeiza, dove si trovano altre residenze utilizzate soprattutto per il fine settimana.
Ne è uscito un ampio servizio con varie foto che mostrano l'ex Pibe de oro, vestito con la tuta della Seleccion, fare capriole e palleggi, attorniato da bambini e adolescenti. Il titolo sottolinea che nel suo ritiro Maradona si mostra di buonumore in attesa di decidere se resta o si dimette da commissario tecnico.
Davanti alla casa c'è una piccola mappa con l'indicazione «vi trovate qui» e un disegno della zona. Sono poi riportate due frasi: "Diego, caro, Las Toscas sono con te" e "Come nell' '86, '90 e '94. Oggi siamo tornati a sentire la Seleccion. La magia continua".
Diego, racconta il giornale, in questi giorni ha lasciato il rifugio una sola volta. È uscito in auto ed è tornato poco dopo. Per il resto si sveglia normalmente alle 14, ha ricevuto la visita di diversi parenti della fidanzata, non si è mai affacciato alla porta ed ha trattato malamente solo un uomo che si è avvicinato a cavallo e gli ha chiesto di fare una foto insieme.
Altri passano e gridano "Forza Diego", "Resisti Diego", sperando di essere sentiti. La casa ha un grande parco, con un piccolo campo di calcio ed uno da tennis, che è stato realizzato mentre Maradona era in Sudafrica e che è un regalo per Veronica. Il giornale, che è stato autorizzato a fare foto ed assistere ad una partitella, non riporta alcuna dichiarazione dell'ex campione.
