Electronic sensors, Wi-Fi, heart rate and statistics: South Korea uses technology to develop its most lethal weapon for the World Cup, resistance. The physical training of Asian team is more like a laboratory than a football pitch. The 23 players are training with electronic sensors on the body and develop specific information for each day of training.
"We study heart rate, distance traveled, best areas of the pitch where players move and after considering data obtained by each player", said Franz Leteber to agency dpa, in the team of the department of physical South Korea led by Raymond Verheijen.
Pitch training of the Olympia Park, Rustenburg, has 12 units distributed throughout the pitch. The electronics receive information from sensors on the body of players and then send the data via Wi-Fi to a computer installed on the stands. In this way, the South Korean technicians receive daily information on the results of any physical workout and after you schedule the work for the next day. "Every player gives different information. Assessed the received data, designing the next working day. Usually carried out work in groups, though sometimes some players must be stronger in a specific area", added Leteber.
Each player has a specific program of work alternating with work in tactical training. The physical performance is one of the strengths of the South Korean team. The team led by Huh Jung Moo has reached its full potential in the 2-0 win over Greece and may constitute a major threat to Argentina in the next game. Work began six weeks before starting the World Cup and was especially focused on performance at altitude.
"Studies began in South Korea, where we were at the sea level. After, we continued to work in Austria, where you get a thousand meters and we finished in Rustenburg, where we are almost two thousand meters". The idea of a South Korean technical team is able to maintain a constant level of the players after an intense physical football season. Verheijen guiding the team to the team, is his third experience with Korean World Cup. Has worked with Guus Hiddink and Dick Advocaat in 2002 in 2006. South Koreans may not yet found the magic formula to stop Lionel Messi in Soccer City stadium tomorrow, but have studied in detail its greatest virtue. With sensors on the body and the Wi-Fi, the Asian team wants to complete its revolution football.
